Turkey Day Tips!

Thanksgiving is a holiday that's all about the food.  But don't consider it a day to throw all your healthy habits aside. Below are some easy tips to enjoy the holiday while staying on track!
1.) Don't show up to dinner starving. The idea of not eating all day and saving all your calories for the big meal usually back fires. Being too hungry can make it harder to make good food choices and easier to over do it. Have a good breakfast high in protein (like an egg white omelete) and then snack on veggies until dinner.
2.) Keep your portions in check. The ADA recommends that half your plate be fruits and vegetables. Load your plate up with these and a helping of lean turkey, this will leave less room for the more decedent stuff.
3.) Don't drink your calories. A big meal like this has enough calories don't add insult to injury by drinking high calorie cocktails or juices. Drinking too much alcohol can also make you more likely to over eat.
4.) Dessert is not a multi-course meal. After dinner don't take a serving of each dessert. Ask yourself what dessert you really want and take one portion of that. If you can't decide between 2 then take a small serving of each. Don't top desserts with ice cream, whip cream, or sauces it will bring the calorie count up a lot.
5.) Enjoy your day! Have fun with friends and family and be thankful for your health! If the weather is nice get out and take a walk around the block before or after dinner!!
